when SPL is concerned, effeciency is not something that should be your main concern.

I have a question, are subs efficient? I know amps are.
Because efficiency is the ratio or work or energy developed (or in the output) compared to the work/energy put into it (input or energy supplied initially).

I thought subs just took whatever power was given to them...
just wondering

subs are efficient in terms of power it takes for it to either get loud or reach max excursion(?) Efficiency is measured in terms of SPL/dB 1w/1m; the higher the number the more efficient a sub. An efficient sub usually don't handle that much power since they don't need that much to get loud.

That's what i've learned about it, but if there's anything wrong then feel free to correct me

in terms of electrical energy input vs. sonic energy output, subs are less than 5% efficient
in fact, 5% would be remarkable

its all application dependent. but say if your an spl competitor and are in street class the DD will be louder. street a and b where won using DD and street c with solo x's. dont get me wrong the RE's and other brands are good and in certain applications will get louder then a DD

depends; efficiency measured as?

a) movement / distance
b) force / movement
c) sound pressure

anyway, there is no answer, because there's no enclosure to model them all in.
