Over Extending A Sub and Subsonic Filters
OK so i have my sub sonic set to like 30Hz and I played Bass I Love You and all of the sudden i hear pop and turn it down real quick. I think i just over extended the sub a lil too much. How is that possible when I have my filter set to 30Hz and with a box tuned to 35Hz? Thanks, Andrew

The filter isnt a block, you will still get the lower frequencies but they will be at a lower decibel level than your normal bass. Probably a -10dB or more. If you had the volume cranked its quite easy to do this.

I see it was not that loud but it looked like the LMT's were almost P2P...
Is there any way to block the lower notes from reaching the sub completly?
Also how would the tuning of the box effect all this?

if your head unit has a crossover and level controls, you can adjust them to alleviate the problem enough, to allow you to play the song.
if that doesn't fix the problem, you can get an inline filter that goes in between the HU and the amplifier. which is an additional crossover that will help manipulate to a curtain extent the frequencies that reaches the amplifier and thus the sub. there are allot of different alternatives to correct your issue, which are better then just depriving your self of stronged out bass, with the addition of active filters, EQ and or others, you should be able to play anything and everything on your system with out issues.
one of the lowest excursion moments of the sub happens at the tuning frequency of the port, because of an impedance change in the subwoofer coil. how high or how low will the excursion be, can be controlled by the power that the frequency is played and limited by the volume of the enclosure and any filters on the amplifier or in line going to the amp. how the subwoofer handles the low frequencies in an enclosure can be controlled some what, in the enclosure design stage by manipulating the tuning of the enclosure and the volume of the enclosure. by being aware of how the sub reacts in the system, you can control how the sub will excurt at a given frequency.

the main low frequency pop within the song is 10hz, not 20hz..
at the time, I wasn't familiar with the song, and found out what 4kw and over 1 octave under tuning will do to a pair of mags..
