ive been looking to get a new one myself, id like to get one of the ones that is hot all the time, they have an actually base they sit in, heard they are kind of expensive though, one that would get up to like 1000 degrees would be nice

i have a weller my self and its one of the best i have had so far, its was only about $25 bucks on parts express. i have two different ends for it and its trigger activated, its heats up to its maximum heat point in like 3 secs. very good solder iron. its also very good for use on pcboards as well as power cables, i have been able to tin my 1/0 power cable tip with it very quickly compared to the other iron i have, which took for ever and a day to get the 1/0 tinned and they would loose heat very quick, where as with the weller it keeps the same temp very well while in use.

thats a nice gun, i have an older bulkier one but its easier holding the pencil style for me since im usually working on an Rc vehicle so I need all the hands I can get haha & I need the ability to get a precise spot and not heat the other material around it(plastics & metals)

true. true. i guess the style of the gun is really dependent of the use you have for it. i haven't been building amps for the longest now. so i only use the gun for simple stuff that is very easy to manipulate to the area i need to heat up, but for pcboard components im sure the pencil style gun will provide a bit more precision.
