How do you...

I see alot of post or comments where guys are wiring their amps down to .7 ohms.

I have heard of running an amp to .5 and lower, but how do you get an amp down to .7 ohms?

I am not trying to do it per se, but just wondering what the point is and or benefits of running an amp at this impeadence, I know some guys have the electrical to actually do this safely and they might be doing it to pull the extra power out of the amp.

But why .7 and how??

The amp will only run at the impedance level it sees from the speaker.

A dual 2 ohm VC speaker will yield a 1 ohm nominal load to the amp (assuming wired parallel-parallel)

Digital Designs, for one, offers speakers with a dual 1.4 ohm VC configuration. So, if you wire it parallel-parallel, the amp will see a .7 ohm load from the speaker.

A dual 1 ohm VC will get you the .5 ohm final load, as will a quad 4 ohm VC...

Granted, there is impedance rise once the sub is in the box...... so even the .7 load will be over 1 ohm at the amp anyway....

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here guys

It seems as if Ion has it down already, but i'll try to see if I know what the hell I am talking about.

Apparently there are two different types of impedance DCR and Nominal. DCR is typically lower than Nominal( i think DCR+30%=Nominal). So if you are trying to wire down to .7 using the DCR reading of ur coil then technically your amp should be seeing around 1ohm because i think Nominal resistance comes into play when ur speakers are doing actual work.

So technically you won't be wiring it down to .7 if you have 1 BL measured at dual 1.4ohms DCR, because the sub is actually dual 2ohm Nominal and you can either wire it down to 1ohm or up to 4ohm.

God I hope i'm right, or if that even made any sense

Edit: Sean, ur in my sig
