Mounting an amp on top of a box.

Just wondering if its ok to do this. Properly tightend down of course. The reason im hesistant on this idea is because of all the rumbling going on.

So to sum it up would mounting an amplifier on top of a box damage it?

Alot of it depends on the power your putting down. Vibration + electronics = failure. Eventually it will cause problems inside the amp.

all IMHO of course.

Weather stripping all the way around the amp will work nice then screw it down tight. That should minimize most hard vibrations going into the amp. Some people have also used these round rubber things that you screw into, and then into the box.

that'll do it lol. I asked this same question to a local car audio shop (3 of the guys there hold usaci titles), they smiled and said... SURE mount them on the box, we'll see you shortly when you pick up another amp

I've mounted mine on boxes for years but they were someone smaller systems (under 600w rms) and never had an issue. I think the higher you go, the more chance you take. Mounting them in rubber sounds like the way to go though, if you don't have other options.

foam type weather stripping. You can find it at Home Depot or Lowes. It is usually around 3/4 inch wide, comes in different thicknesses like 1/4in to 1in almost. Comes on a roll and says for use on windows, places on campers and things. Costs like 7 bucks for a long roll.
